Hon. (Princess) Surah Olayemi Animashaun is the newly elected Executive Chairman of the Epe Local Government Area in Lagos State and the first ever female local government chairman to be elected in the region.
She was born to the royal family of Oba Kamarudeen Animashaun in Ebutemetta, Lagos State and attended Mount Carmel and Baptist Primary school and obtained her secondary school diploma from Jubril Martins high school.
While in high school, she was part of a group called ‘Young Kolanuts’; a community of creative people that took it upon themselves to explore the rich history of Lagos state and also celebrate its cultural heritage and traditions through theatre and stage performances.
She juggled this with working part-time at her father’s company, Kaph’s Engineering Services, and running her own businesses, simultaneously.
Being the first daughter of the family came with its attendant obligations. However, the responsibility of wearing many hats at a very young age molded her into a highly-motivated and astute business-woman.
In the course of her career, her pro-activeness and effectiveness saw her running various businesses and occupying positions of influence within the organisations she worked with, in little or no time.
She also showed great initiative in her capacity as the Supervisor for Environment, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Currently, Epe stands as one of the tidiest LGAs in the state with a highly efficient sanitation and waste management team.
Hon. Surah O. Animashaun’s life has always been one of servitude and her objectives have often revolved around creating meaningful impact for all. This, amongst others, informed her decision to venture into politics and was the catalyst for her emergence as the Executive Chairman of Epe LGA - equipping her with a bigger platform to do more for her people.
The quest for a greener, cleaner and healthier environment and her driving passion for tourism prompted her to establish ‘Epe Ancient City’; a travel and tour company with the primary goal of promoting the rich, untold history and heritage of Epe Town and to put a spotlight on the community as a melting pot of peace and tranquility.
Epe, known as the fish basket of Lagos State, is beautifully endowed with dense mangroves, trails, hills, resort and ancient monuments; most significantly, it is largely surrounded by water.
The end goal is to embark on sustainable urban development initiatives that will trigger the aesthetic transformation of the community and create a competitive advantage that not only positions Epe as the destination of preference but also produces significant impact for all its residents.
Upon her resumption as the first female-elected Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government, she has established a dedicated strategy to grow the local economy, through the promotion of tourism, arts, and culture with a focus on how to use its value chain to support small businesses and the community at large

Hon Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun plans to leverage on the touristic potentials of the region through public and private investor partnerships which will in turn create a ripple effect of job opportunities and by extension, an increase in IGR both at the local and state level.
